getting our cars in order, checking the weather forecast every day and
stocking up on polish and wax to make sure our cars are as
perfect as can be. The 2009 Scottish Modified Car Show was
billed with so many attractions it would be hard for someone
to get round it all and experience everything on offer.
Forgetting for a moment the actual cars the event had
everything from the Army and their brand new multi
million pound training simulator, The Clan stunt cycle
team (who blew YouTube apart last month with over 7
million hits of their crew member Danny stunt riding
around Edinburgh), Heidi and her Globe Of Death coming across the water
from Holland plus a massive funfair, Max Power Magazine in attendance, music outdoors from Rezerection and the indoor sound scape provided by Bathgate's Room At The Top and Motherwell's MegaBar/HYPE.
Last year was busy with over 1,000 cars packed into the Royal Highland showground at Ingliston but this year they managed to squeeze in over 1,200! Max Power were stationed right in the centre of the Top 50 display area while the main stage was moved out towards the end of the indoor hall changing things around again from the show last year. Up on the track area things were again mixed up with MontegoMan Russ Swift's stunt driving son Paul showcasing his awesome talents and continuing the family tradition of adrenaline fueled high octane entertainment. The EDC drifters were also out in force with Mark Luney over from Ireland plus our own home grown talent including KC from this very site.
The weather held up most of the day and although fairly quiet at the start of the event by mid afternoon the place was rammed and according to the police there were over 18,000 people in attendance! Our very own PR team, the StrathyBabes were on top form not only flying the flag for Strathycruise but also working for The Sun newspaper handing out supplements to show visitors. The level of babes this year was miles ahead of last year with the SMC girls looking fantastic too and other websites bucking up their ideas and getting the talent stakes raised.
As always Scottish folks love to moan and criticise so as soon as some people got home and booted up their PC's stupid comments began to fly. Some complained about spaces in the indoor hall where traders had paid for space but hadn't bothered to turn up, or car clubs booked placements and didn't show. Not a lot you can do when you are holding off in case they are delayed and they don't show, cant exactly start pulling cars in from elsewhere with the show about to start. Others complained that the quality of cars on display was sub par, obviously blissfully unaware that we're in the middle of a massive recession with loads of people out of work and loads more worried they are next. Not as much free cash around to plough into modifying cars when more important things are playing on minds like food and paying the rent.
For all the moaning and bitching tell me this, where else in the country will you find a full days entertainment with everything listed above for £15?
Exactly! STFU & GTFO unless you can do better
A top day out, good weather and a massive variety of cars spanning from retro and classic through to high performance and modified plus loads things to keep you busy throughout the day - you can't ask for more.
